Plot 411: Separated couple Meryl and Paul Morgan witness a murder and are put into the witness protection program.

Review: Meryl (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Paul (Hugh Grant) are a high-power New York couple who have been separated for several months due to Paul's one night stand. He has tried to win Meryl back but has been unsuccessful. After a night out where they an attempt to patch things up, the couple witness the murder of one of Meryl's clients. They are temporarily placed in protective custody in Ray, Wyoming until separate accommodations can be arranged. Here they are forced to work out their marital problems. This sounds like the plot of a murder mystery or suspense thriller, but it's really a rom com in disguise . . . or not. Parker is pretty much revisiting her character from Sex In The City - a sophisticated New Yorker who is an optimist when it comes to love. Grant reprises his role again (and yes, I do me "role" singularly). Has he ever played someone other than the funny and slightly awkward British dude? If you can overlook this, the movie is pretty much par for the course. I mean, it's not belly-aching funny but it has its moments. This is mostly due to Grant. Perfect characters in this film are Emma (Mary Steenburgen) and Clay (Sam Elliott), the law enforcement officers who look after Paul and Meryl in Wyoming. They are superbly cast. I love them in these roles.

Watch It: But don't expect too much from it. It's just a mediocre rom com.

Skip It: And watch Something's Gotta Give for a more mature rom com that's twice as funny and definitely got a better script.

The Perfect Man

Plot 411: A single mom uproots her family whenever her heart is broken and her eldest daugther finally puts her foot down.

Review: Heather Locklear and Hilary Duff star in this film about female empowerment . . . well, sorta. Locklear plays Jean, a single mom who is struggling to raise her two girls Holly (Duff) and Zoe (Aria Wallace). She is also desperate to find a man because she's tired of struggling on her own and doesn't feel fulfilled unless she has one. Because of her desperation, she continuously picks losers who let her down. When (not if) her heart gets broken, she packs up her house and kids and moves to another city. This is their family's new adventure. During their recent move to Brooklyn, Holly decides that enough is enough and creates a perfect man for her mom. This man is based on her friend's uncle, played by Chris Noth. She takes his advice and through the power of ingenuity and technology she is able to create a virtual suitor in hopes that her mother realizes she is perfect the way she is. While watching this film, I couldn't help but wonder whether Noth chose his films because of their location (New York) more than plot. From Sex and the City to Law & Order, the guy doesn't seem to leave the Big Apple. Also, Locklear and Duff look really good as mother and daughter. Their blonde hair and blue eyes are really striking. Other than that, this wasn't a really notable rom com or teen flick.

Watch It: For a chance to see Mr. Big?

Skip It: Because it's pretty unforgettable anyway.

My Faraway Bride / My Bollywood Bride

Plot 411: An American goes to India in search for the love he met in Los Angeles only to find that she's a famous Bollywood actress.

Review: Seriously, the only good reason to watch this one is if you're having Jason Lewis withdrawls. Even then, it might be better just to watch him on you Sex and the City DVDs. I don't know whether or not I should take the bad acting throughout this movie seriously. It could just be the Bollywood style overly dramatized (the film is about a Bollywood actress after all). The over-the-top costumes, dance moves and songs are just too much. The most memorable character in this film was not the main stars but a supporting actor Ash Chandler, who played Priyad, Lewis' taxi driver.

Watch It: For a Jason Lewis fix, but even then you'll probably be disappointed. There's probably only one good scene in this of him. Stick with Sex and the City and you'll have a wealth of Lewis.

Skip It: If you've got any sense at all.
